Year 5 blog by Oliver Johnston
Year 5 summer term has certainly been action packed!  Here are a few of the activities that we have enjoyed.
On Thursday the 19th June, Year 5 took a trip back in time to the Tudor days at Kentwell Manor in Suffolk.  We all had to dress in Tudor clothes.
We had the opportunity to learn how Tudor food was prepared, how to make a ruff and clean them
properly.  We learnt that every family had a shield or emblem unique to them and we were shown
how to make marzipan flowers.

Outside the manor house we met people who taught us how to fight in the war, using a Tudor tool.

My favourite part of the day was learning about all the different herbs and the benefits to people’s
health in that time.

Last week was sports week at school.  I had a fantastic week and really enjoyed trying out some new
sports.  Year 5 had inter-house tournaments with elite, karate lessons with Mr Methven (where we
learnt how to behave ourselves!), golf at Aldwickbury golf club to improve our chipping, putting and
straight hitting and tennis with Mrs Kershaw and Mrs Drake which I enjoyed the most.  We tried a
forehand shot and a game of wipe out which was a draw.  Finally, we had a yoga session with Mrs
Herries where we stretched ourselves out and came out taller!
